First of all, please excuse my bad english, i don't have to use it very often... 
seeqSearch is a small tool (Windows, .exe only, no need for additional .dlls, registry or other stuff) with only one purpose: searching for music using the seeqpod-API and downloading it.
The first version (V0.01) of seeqSearch (mentioned here) was just a piece of software to try out the seeqpod-API without any additional functionality. Because of some people using it anyway, i've spent some time to implement a few more features.
This is new in V0.10:
- seeqSearch now "phones home" to find new versions. This is done by requesting the file "seeqsearch.version" from http://absurde-zeiten.de . No personal data of you is submitted!
- seeqSearch is now able to use Proxies (configured in Internet Explorer)
- The URLs found by seeqpod are often broken, so seeqSearch is able to verify the URLs now before displaying them. Just klick the Checkbox and enjoy
. Because seeqSearch has to request the HTTP-header for all URLs found, this option is quite slow, so be patient. - It's possible to limit the results to a number of 50 or 100, which is especially useful, when it's combined with the URL-checking mentioned above
- The presentation of the results can be modified by using own CSS, just place a file called 'seeqsearch.css' in the directory, where seeqsearch.exe resides, and it will be used. the style-section has to be defined using HTML-style with starting <style> and closing </style>, download the example...
- Enhanced keyboard handling, the search starts by simply hitting the carriage return key, no need to click anymore
- Disabling of inactive GUI elements
- Only one Win32 exe; no dlls, no registry entries
- Optimal for use with portable mp3-players
- Tested on Windows XP Professional and Vista Home Premium (german editions)
So download seeqSearch V0.10 and give it a try... Some feedback (and also bug reports) would be nice. Feel free to comment this article. And remember to download only files allowed by your local law.

seeqSearch (V0.01) ist als winzige Test-Applikation zur Nutzung der seeqpod-API entstanden, siehe auch hier. Eigentlich sollte es dabei bleiben, da aber das Tool trotz seiner großen Defizite einige interessierte Nutzer gefunden hat, habe ich in dieser neuen Version V0.10 einige Erweiterungen vorgenommen:
- seeqSearch telefoniert nach Hause, um die Verfügbarkeit neuer Versionen zu überprüfen. Dabei wird nur die Datei "seeqsearch.version" von http://www.absurde-zeiten.de heruntergeladen. Persönliche Daten o.ae. werden nicht übermittelt!
- seeqSearch sollte nun auch mit Proxies, die in den Internet-Einstellungen des Internet Explorers konfiguriert wurden, funktionieren.
- Da die von seeqpod übermittelten URLs teilweise veraltet bzw. kaputt sind, kann seeqSearch nun die Verfügbarkeit der Dateien vor der Anzeige verifizieren. Dafür wird der HTTP-Header jeder URL geholt, was dazu führen kann, dass diese Option einige Zeit benötigt, wenn sie (per Checkbox) aktiviert wird.
- Die Anzahl der ermittelten URLs kann auf 50 oder 100 beschränkt werden. Das ist insbesondere sinnvoll, wenn gleichzeitig die URL-Überprüfung verwendet wird, da sich so die Wartezeiten reduzieren.
- Die Ergebnisanzeige kann über eigenen CSS-Code beeinflusst werden. seeqSearch sucht dafür in seinem Installationsverzeichnis nach einer Datei "seeqsearch.css", die bei Vorhandensein verwendet wird. Der Aufbau dieser Datei folgt den üblichen HTML-Konventionen mit einleitendem <style> und beendendem </style>-Code. Ein Beispiel kann unter diesem Link heruntergeladen werden.
- Die Tastatur-Abfrage wurde optimiert. Nach Eingabe des Suchbegriffs kann die Suche direkt (ohne Klicken) durch Betätigen der Return-Taste gestartet werden.
- Während der Suche werden die GUI-Elemente deaktiviert
- Windows 32bit .exe, keine weiteren DLLs, keine Registry-Einträge.
- Optimal für die Nutzung auf MP3-Sticks und ähnlichem Equipment.
- Getestet mit Windows XP Professional und Vista Home Premium.
Also einfach mal seeqSearch ausprobieren und bitte den folgenden rechtlichen Hinweis beachten:
Im WWW finden sich durchaus Inhalte, die von ihren Rechteinhabern nicht für die Veröffentlichung im Internet freigegeben wurden. Diese Inhalte werden von einer Suchmaschine wie seeqpod natürlich gefunden und somit auch vom hier vorgestellten Tool seeqSearch, welches nur die Resultate von seeqpod aufbereitet, aufgelistet. Eine Filterung ist nicht möglich.
Daher appelliere ich an alle Nutzer, ausschließlich legale, d.h. von den Rechteinhabern zum Download bereitgestellte Titel, herunterzuladen.

is there anyway i can set the folder for where downloads go
The download is handled by the webgadget, which is (simply spoken) an instance of Internet Explorer.
So there is no way for me to change the download path, it’s an IE setting.
But you can always right-click the link and choose “Save link target as…”.
Brian, heres something which may help you.
If you download flashget (jetcar) you can right click any of the mp3 links
and click download all using flashget.
This will allow you to set the download directory.
Also, in Internet explorer, when you have downloaded one file, further files get downloaded to the same folder by default.

I also play with seeqpod api, and i also have a non very good english
Using the search method of the api, i can’t get more than 1000 tracks for an artist. the search ……/1000/100 and over return an empty track list in the XML document.
Did you have encountered the same problem writting seeqsearch? did you find a solution?

I also noticed the limitation of 1000 search results.
I haven’t found a solution. It’s a limit, which can’t be disabled, i think.
I never tried getting a larger number of results via the web interface. Did you? Is the result set also limited there?

The seeqpod site give more than 1000 results when asking to some artists like i.e “beatles”
Also the result XML file display more than 1000 result in the total attribute. but i don’t know how to get them.

Hi, I appreciate the tool as seeqpod gives good results. What I do not understand why seeqsearch does not give lets search results than seeqpod. For example “Rick Springfield Love” Seeqpod finds 4 hits whereas seeqsearch finds none. I’m I doing somehing wrong???
Hmmm. Tried this just this minute. I got 3 results without the use of the “check for existence” checkbox.
By using “check for existence” the number of results is 0. But this seems to be correct, the links for the 3 hits are dead.

You are right I get 3 hits, but the hits in seeqpod can be played whereas the seeqsearch hits cannot be downloaded…
Any thoughts?
It seems so, that seeqpod uses a cache for playing, where the files are still existing, altough they were deleted from the web.
Is there a way to download from the seeqpod cache? According to my searches a big portion can be played via seeqpod – the cache -, so consequently not accessible via seeqsearch.
I think, there’s no chance at the moment to download the cached version, because the url isn’t returned any longer by the API.

Da kommt dann eine Zeile zurück, in der sowas wie das Folgende steht:

Das erste Feld enthält die aktuelle Version von seeqSearch, ist die verwendete Version älter, kommt entweder (abhängig vom 2. Feld (0 oder 1) nur ein Warnhinweis oder seeqSearch lässt sich gar nicht starten.
Das 3. Feld (0 oder 1) gibt an, ob ein Message-Requester mit der in Feld 4 enthaltenen Kurznachricht angezeigt werden soll.
Mehr passiert da nicht.
Sie schreiben, dass das Tool mit Vista Home Premium getestet wurde. Allerdings konnte ich das Ding unter Vista nicht starten. Bei XP hat es funktionniert. Nur so zur Info!
